Mr. Smith

He doesn’t talk to anyone, absorbed within his task
He doesn’t seem to want to hear, anything I ask
What are your thoughts about the future? Mr. Smith
The question seemed to hurt
He said he used to talk to many people
But his words got slurred
And now he's trying to be heard

Private possessions in a battered old suit case
Rented from a shop in the town
He’d go on expeditions, exploring ambitions
To stop himself from feeling down
Oh Mr Smith
Oh Mr Smith

He doesn’t talk to anyone, absorbed within his task
He doesn’t seem to want to hear, anything I ask
He bought a Cigarette Holder and a Lock and Co. Bowler Hat
Such a romantic disguise
But the man inside was lost and lonely
And he could not hide
The truth behind those tear stained eyes

Private possessions in a battered old suit case
Rented from a shop in the town
He’d go on expeditions, exploring ambitions
To stop himself from feeling down
Oh Mr Smith
Oh Mr Smith

He doesn’t talk to anyone, absorbed within his task
Every day I'd pass him by he must have changed his path
Now that he's gone oh I miss that Mr. Smith
They looked around his hallowed ground
But could not find him...
